It's Tax Time! Help is available.

“Free is good,” says the IRS in a television advertisement for its online tax-preparation service, Tax Act, available to single and married taxpayers with no dependents filing Form 1040 EZ or Form 1040A for single and married taxpayers with
dependents and who may claim certain tax credits but do not itemize deductions..

If you are technologically challenged, you can still get free tax help by appointment only from a program called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Need help itemizing tax deductions on IRS Schedule A or are you a teacher and want to deduct expenses for items you purchased out of pocket for classroom use?

Are you an undergraduate, graduate student, or professional taking courses to enhance your professional skills?

Do you have children and wonder if you are eligible to claim the child care credit for expenses paid to enable you to wok, the child credit, additional child credit, or the refundable earned income credit?

If you answer yes to any of the above, St. Paul’s has available trained VITA volunteers waiting to help you. Free! To start the free preparation of your Federal and California tax returns, call (619) 298-7241 to schedule an appointment.

Appointments are available on Saturdays, February 12, March 5, and April 2, from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Sundays, February 13, March 6, and April 3, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Schedule now. Your returns can be filed electronically, meaning, you could receive any refund in as little as eight days after your return is entered into the IRS computer. Note: certain restrictions may apply preventing the preparation of your returns by VITA.
