St Paul's and Gay Pride: Stonewall Service Award

San Diego Pride has awarded St Paul's Cathedral the Stonewall Service Award. From the San Diego Pride press release:

Since hosting the first national convention on the West Coast in the early 1980s calling for LGBT rights within the Episcopal Church, St. Paul’s Cathedral in Bankers Hill has visibly campaigned against Proposition 8, and enlisted its priests and clergy to go door to door in spreading a message of equality. It has also openly denounced hate crimes and false claims made by leaders of the “ex-gay” movement in their attempts to turn LGBT individuals “straight.” The cathedral serves as a beacon for tolerance, welcoming people of every faith regardless of their sexuality.

Woo-hoo! There will be a rally Friday night when the award will be presented.

All members of the St Paul's community are welcome to participate in this year's San Diego Pride Parade on Saturday July 17th (meet at the Cathedral at 10am, more info here). St Paul's is usually the biggest group walking. It's fun, celebratory, and joyful, a great way to build our community and show our love and Spirit! So put on your purple Cathedral T-shirts and your walking shoes (and don't forget the sunscreen!)
