General Convention gets underway

General Convention is now underway in Indianapolis, where The Episcopal Church is  meeting as it does triennially.  The resolutions to be discussed in this legislative process range from budget and health care, to mission goals and organization, to same sex blessings and the response to the proposed Anglican Convenant.

Our deputation, lead by the Rev. Canon Allisyn Thomas, is keeping us informed via the GC2012 San Diego Deputies Blog.  You'll find posts and pictures from all our deputies and from Bishop Mathes, with frequent updates every day.

As things got underway yesterday, some humor crept in (as you can see to the right).  As the delegations tested their special voting machines, they voted on a mock resolution that would require all acolytes to wear close-toed shoes.  It passed by a narrow margin, but it was only a test, so the results are not binding!

You can keep up with the events beyond the San Diego delegation via the official General Convention Website.  If you want an informal view of what's happening in 140-character bites, follow the twitter hashtag "#GC77"  where the comments range from voting results on individual resolutions to debating whether there should be a GC77 theme song.

Convention runs through the 12th of July.
