As the People’s Warden of St. Paul’s Cathedral, I am on the Cathedral’s Chapter (Board of Directors, if you will) which primarily oversees the finances as well as the buildings and grounds of the Cathedral. I serve on the Endowment and Finance Committees as well as the Board of Directors of Saint Paul’s Senior Homes and Services. Yet as the People’s Warden, I envision myself primarily as representing the interests of the people of our congregation and as such I will continue to keep you up to date on what the Chapter is doing.
The Cathedral Chapter is the sole member of the Nutmeg and Olive LLC, which is responsible for managing the sale of our permitted properties to the north and south of the Cathedral. As part of her transition from the Cathedral to the Bishop’s Office, Allisyn Thomas has resigned from the LLC board; Mark Lester was elected to fill her unexpired term on the LLC. Andrew Brooks was asked to convene a small committee to explore the status, function and future plans of the LLC. It was decided that meetings of the sole member of the LLC will be scheduled quarterly.
The Search Team reported the window for additional candidates for the Dean’s position has closed and that they have 52 applications received; review of these candidates’ applications is complete and the Search Team will further consider 14 of the 52 candidates.
The Stewardship Campaign was discussed. It was suggested that Chapter members take a larger role and the consensus of the Chapter was to adopt this approach. The Campaign begins in November and there are six stewardship events planned.
The Dean’s Warden, Mark Lester, meets regularly with a number of Cathedral committees. He opened a conversation with the LLC members in anticipation of becoming an LLC Director.
The People’s Warden, Judy Moore, continues to attend the Misa service and is working with Colin Mathewson to further this congregation.
Sub-Dean Allisyn reported October 27th will be her last Sunday as a member of the Cathedral clergy. The September 3rd Chapter meeting is her last. A going-away party is planned for October 26th.
Interim Dean Rebecca McClain announced that Colin and Laurel Mathewson will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, October 19th. And: they are expecting a baby!
Chapter learned that plans for the renovation of the Cathedral chapel are proceeding and that the design will allow for more flexibility, and will be handicapped -accessible.
Chapter members concluding three-year terms are Erin Sacco Pineda, David Behling, and Mark Lester. Don Pellioni is concluding a one-year term. Erin, David and Mark will form the core of the Nominating Committee.
As always, I encourage you to talk to me during coffee hour after the 10:30pm or 1:00p.m. services or contact me at jmoore405@att.net if you have any thoughts or concerns.
Blessings and joy to all of you.
Judy Moore
